Two more ideas that reduce the costs of a baby and make our lives more easy and happy

We got a lot of feedbacks from you to one of our previous article, 5 ideas that reduce the costs of a baby and make us and our baby more happy. This inspired us to write more about this topic.

Here are two more ideas that we got being with our 8 months old son, Hugó.

  1. The whole family eats together.

We never bought baby food for Hugó. Up to six monthes he exclusively got mother milk, then he started weaning. First he tried banana.

What is more yummy than eating a banana by yourself?

Then grapes, cooked potato, carrot, avocado and sweet potato. For us eating healthy is very important. When we go shopping we only buy ingredients. We are vegetarian, so it is mainly fresh vegetables, fruits, rice, integral pasta and some milk products. Zoé is right now breastfeeding, so we take care that she and Hugó gets enought vitamin B12 from egg and milk products.

Lately we were eating more and more vegan and discovered beer yeast. They say it has a lot of vitamin B12, so it could be the perfect vegan alternativ to milk products. What do you think about this and do you have other ideas of naturally getting vitamin B12?

Eating together with our baby improves the eating habits of the whole family. We think about food much more consciously, for example we cook less salty.

Yesterday in the morning we ate oat flakes, dried grapes and cocos with whole milk yogurt. For us it is important that the rare milk products we eat are out of full milk, bio and if possible from goat or sheep.
During the day we ate broa, the typical corn bread of Portugal, with a homemade avocado spread. Recipe comes soon. So if you do not want to miss it, follow us!
In the evening we ate sweet potato puree with fried champignons.

Hugó tries all of this and loves them. Additionally he drinks mother milk on demand.
If you have any recipes that the whole family can enjoy together, please share them with us!

2. The best toy for a child is your attention.

For us it is difficult to imagine a happy baby without happy parents. So we try to do what makes us happy and integrate Hugó in this activity.

“Let’s make some cool music, bro!” Since Hugó was born, he loves music. It is so beautiful to see the two of them playing together.

But of course Hugó also loves to play with his toys. We like very much the idea of a zero waste child. For that we use cloth diaper, buy second hand clothes and we do not buy unnecessary toys. Most of them we got second hand or as presents from friends and family.

Here Hugó is playing with a baby car that he got from our friend, Patricia and his cat, Mikesh, that was a present of Joshua’s mother, Gabi.

If we buy a toy, we like to buy wood or cotton. One of our most favourite we found in Debrecen in a second hand shop. His name is Carlos Springfield, a colourful zebra, secret agent and magician. Soon  comes a blognovel about his life on Blueberry Beach!

Carlos Springfield enjoying the sun at Zoé’s parents.

We wish you all a great time!
Hugs,
Zoé and Joshua
